Jacob’s journey from hammerhand to Senior Project Engineer shows where a career in construction can take you when you embrace opportunities and put in the mahi.

He got his first taste of the industry at just 18, when a labour hire firm assigned him to work as a labourer on Brian Perry Civil’s Majestic Centre project. His enthusiasm and strong work ethic quickly stood out, and a site foreman encouraged him to apply for an engineering cadetship.

That opportunity marked the beginning of a remarkable career path. Since then, Jacob has combined practical on-site experience with ongoing professional development, completing numerous training programmes, including a Diploma in Civil Engineering.

In 2022, his commitment to self-improvement was recognised when he was named a finalist in the Personal Improvement Award at the Civil Contractors New Zealand National Awards.

Today, as a Senior Project Engineer, Jacob continues to build on that early foundation, applying his technical expertise and hands-on experience to complex construction projects.

Reflecting on his journey, Jacob says he is grateful for the opportunities and support Fletcher Construction has provided throughout his career, helping him develop both professionally and personally.
