Specialist Operator

When Peter Capilitan arrived from the Philippines in 2018, he faced a significant challenge. Although he was qualified as a surveyor, his credentials were not recognised in New Zealand. Determined to build a future in the industry, he joined Higgins as a grader operator while exploring pathways to return to his chosen profession.

With encouragement from his team, Peter used the Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF) to gain a surveying qualification recognised in New Zealand. Supported by Fletcher Construction's Early in Career Programme team, who helped connect him with Connexis, Peter successfully completed his studies.

Peter is proud of what he has achieved and the opportunities it has created.

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunities I've been given to achieve my dream of becoming a surveyor,” he says. “The qualification has opened new doors for my career, and I'm ready for more projects.”
