Martin Ward has spent nearly 20 years building his career with Fletcher Construction. Starting as a labourer and later progressing to Temporary Traffic Manager, he eventually decided it was time for a new challenge.

“I was ready for something different, so I joined Engineering Services as a Digital Engineer.”

With extensive experience in temporary traffic management design and staging, the move was a natural fit. Today, Martin develops traffic staging plans for major projects, helping ensure construction can be carried out safely while minimising disruption for road users. His work includes planning construction phases, maintaining traffic flow, and designing detours where required.

“Digital engineering allows me to use my specialised skills every day while continuing to learn and adapt to the needs of different projects,” he says.

Martin is passionate about helping project teams embrace new technologies and ways of working.

“We’ve moved well beyond pen-and-paper design. By creating digital construction models, we can improve visualisation, coordination and constructability, helping teams make better decisions during both the design and construction phases.”

By combining practical field experience with digital innovation, Martin is helping project teams work smarter, safer and more efficiently.
