Briana Stemp
Geospatial TechnicianBriana Stemp’s journey into surveying began on the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway project, where she worked as a gatekeeper. Welcoming people onto site each day, she quickly got to know members of Fletcher Construction’s Engineering Services survey team.
When an opportunity arose to join the team as a survey assistant, Briana seized it. Supported by her colleagues, she gained hands-on experience across different areas of surveying, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and developed the skills needed to build a career in the field.
Today, Briana works as a Geospatial Technician and enjoys the variety her role brings.
“I get to work on sites across the Fletcher Construction business, and every day is different. I’m constantly learning new things and helping solve unique challenges,” she says.
Using GPR and Electro-Magnetic Location (EML) technology, Briana locates, maps and identifies buried services before construction work begins. By creating detailed 3D digital models rather than relying on traditional 2D spot locations, she provides project teams with a clearer and more accurate understanding of what lies beneath the surface.
Her work plays a critical role in protecting underground infrastructure, informing design decisions and keeping people safe on site.
“It helps us manage risks and protect our people,” says Briana. “It’s rewarding to know that the work I do contributes to keeping our teams safe every day.”
