Marshall Ellis
LabourerSince 2006, Higgins Wairarapa has been helping local young people build careers in civil construction through its cadetship programme. Cadets gain hands-on experience across surfacing, aggregates, construction and maintenance, while working towards industry qualifications, licences and endorsements with the support of experienced mentors.
Marshall Ellis joined the programme after leaving school in 2022 and is currently working towards a National Certificate in Drainlaying – Installation (Level 4). Working with the construction team, he has taken every opportunity to develop new skills, from operating heavy machinery to contributing to subdivision and infrastructure projects. He is currently involved in a watermain upgrade project.
“At Higgins, I feel you can achieve anything if you take the time to learn,” says Marshall. “Everyone has been incredibly supportive, helping me grow, take on more responsibility, and progress into a Leading Hand role. I’m excited to complete my studies and continue building my career with Higgins.”
