Bryne Hancy

Leading Hand

Bryne Hancy leads a team responsible for maintaining Hawke’s Bay’s state highways as part of the Network Outcomes Contract team. Their work covers everything from repairing damaged signs and edge marker posts to filling potholes, setting up emergency traffic management, and clearing accident debris or fallen trees from the road. With jobs taking them across the region, no two days are ever the same.

Nicknamed "The Toolman", Bryne keeps his truck stocked with solutions for almost any situation he might encounter. A natural problem-solver, he thrives on the unexpected and particularly enjoys responding to callouts, where emergencies and challenging situations often bring out the best in people. As a former Army Reservist, his ability to quickly assess a situation, plan a response, and ensure everyone is looked after comes naturally.

After spending much of his life in the Waikato, Bryne returned to Hawke’s Bay four years ago to be closer to whānau. Joining Higgins marked his first role in the civil construction industry, but a diverse and varied career had already equipped him with the skills and adaptability needed to take on whatever the job demands.

His manager describes Bryne as having an outstanding work ethic, with a knack for thinking on his feet and finding practical solutions. Combined with his commitment to supporting his team and keeping the network safe, these qualities make him a valued member of the Higgins whānau.
